Google Analytics Tells Us Where to Focus

Ed Vielmetti posted some insightful Google Analytics stats about Arborwiki.org‘s “redlink” pages so I thought I would share the same results from RichmondWiki.

For the unfamiliar, a “redlink” is a link within a wiki to a page that doesn’t exist yet. They show up as red instead of the traditional blue links that we’re used to. Conveniently, the sum of these links are aggregated in the “Wanted Pages” report so we can see the non-existent pages with the most links (a proxy for demand?).

The following image tells us that 1.45% of the page views on the site are on blank “edit” pages as the result of a visitor clicking on a redlink:

The Exit % of these pages is lower than expected at 17.95%. This compares very favorably to the site average of 31.63%.

So, which “redlink” pages are clicked on most often? Here are the top 25 most requested articles that don’t exist yet:

  • Terrell Brown (36 clicks)
  • Casey Nicholson (22)
  • Tracy Lynn (20)
  • Bryan Park (12)
  • Forest Hill Park (10)
  • Ashley Swann (8)
  • Colleen Reilly (6)
  • Aaron Gilchrist (5)
  • Allen Avenue (5)
  • Colonial Downs (5)

Seems like RichmondWiki visitors have a thing for NBC12 personalities
