The original creator of the wiki is a man named Ward Cunningham. He has posted a couple YouTube videos about the opportunities of a wiki and the strengths of a wiki for an interview with Portland State University students.
Both are short, about 90 seconds each, but provide some 30,000-foot perspective on the wiki philosophy.
