RICHMONDWIKI.ORG ANNOUNCES FREE COMMUNITY RESOURCE FOR RICHMOND
Collaborative Wiki Website Allows Anybody To Add or Edit ContentRICHMOND, Va. (November, 20 2008) – RichmondWiki.org is pleased to announce the launch of a new online community resource for Richmonders. RichmondWiki.org is a not-for-profit, publicly editable website about the people, places, events, and institutions that make Richmond unique. Built on the same software and principles as Wikipedia, RichmondWiki.org allows anyone to add or edit content on the site.
“The goal for RichmondWiki.org is to create a free, collaborative resource about everything Richmond. The site is a collection of facts and figures that will only grow in size and usefulness as more people contribute content,” says RichmondWiki.org founder Andrew Miller. “The decentralized model gives Richmonders a unique opportunity to contribute in a way that suits them.”
RichmondWiki.org is a self-moderating community of readers, contributors, and editors. Local businesses and community organizations are encouraged to create articles for their organizations which, if written in an objective and unbiased tone, can be a very effective online marketing tool. An extensive series of help articles explain how wikis work and make it easy to add or edit content.
“Early users of the site tend to gravitate towards lists of things to do,” says Miller. “The most popular article on the site in October was a list of Richmond haunted houses. I expect that the compilation of tacky lights will surpass that during the holiday season.”
