Upgrading to Mediawiki 1.13

[UPDATE] I ran in to a few errors during the upgrade but I think I’ve resolved most, if not all, of them manually in phpMyAdmin. Some table names were not updated to the new schema and I had to update them. Additionally, the Special:Categories page does not contain any of the categories that existed before the upgrade. I’m not going to mess with that yet, since this thread seems to indicate that it’s due a script that takes a little while to run. I’m hoping this will finish up soon. [/UPDATE]

This morning I am *attempting* to upgrade RichmondWiki’s Mediawiki base code from version 1.12 to 1.13. I give it about 75% chance of being successful and a 25% chance that I will irreversibly corrupt the entire site rendering inoperable. I did make a backup, so in the event of catastrophic failure I can *hopefully* get the old version back up without too much delay.

For anybody interested, here are the Mediawiki 1.13 Release Notes. Among the highlights:

  • Several bug fixes
  • Drop-down AJAX search suggestions (turn on $wgEnableMWSuggest)
  • More relevant search snippets (turn on $wgAdvancedSearchHighlighting)

Keep your fingers crossed, and let me know if you see anything funky with the new release.
